French Design Exotic illustration of Brazil
Made in 1862 by Joseph Fuchs for the Jules Desfossé factory, this print of Brazil depicts an exotic landscape very fashionable in the 19th century by exalting the tropical character of the country, through idealized fauna and flora. Scarlet ibises, parrots, peacocks, birds of paradise and pelicans flit around the palm trees and lush plants.
Landscape paintings, panoramic wallpapers, were a form of wall decoration, specifically French, in keeping with the taste of the 19th century, for the outdoors and the picturesque. Changing the interior into the exterior, this print launches the imagination through landscapes, mythological stories, travel reports, successful novels...
